1291 Group was founded in 2000 and is licensed in over 35 countries. We work with more than 50 insurance companies in 16 jurisdictions and offer tax-compliant solutions in over 60 countries. We pride ourselves on combining a structured corporate approach with an entrepreneurial spirit, delivering solutions with practical and direct advice.

OUR NAME

The name "1291" honours the historical founding year of Switzerland, symbolising the values of independence, protection, and adherence to the rule of law.

The 1st of August 1291 marks the beginning of the Swiss Confederation, with the union of the three cantons: Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden. The alliance members swore an oath of independence, and to respect and protect the law, the lives of their families, and all forms of property. Twenty-six cantons later acceded to the Confederation, supporting the original charter values to become the Switzerland we know today. We have chosen these core values of Switzerland as our maxim to protect, structure and optimize the assets and interests of our clients.

Patrick Knecht

Chief Operating Officer

Educational background: 30+ years a Service Provider within the Financial & IT services area. Federal certificate in Project management further specializing in operational excellence and organizational Development (University Witten, Germany)
Professional stations: 15 years CEO and owner of a Business & IT Consulting Company specializing in corporate optimization, process & cost efficiency. 8 years as CEO/COO of Skandia Leben AG.
Important values: Strive for continuous improvement - never stop trying, failing, learning, because there is always a little more to achieve

Daniel Koller

Educational background: Doctor of Laws (Dr. iur.), 20 years of experience in the financial sector, different management positions in the past

Various management positions with a listed Swiss Insurance Group from 1996 - 2007. Board member of the Liechtenstein Insurance Association from 2008 - 2015.

Our history

  • In 2000, Marc-André Sola laid the foundation for what would become a globally recognized financial institution by founding NMG International Financial Services. This venture marked the beginning of our journey, initially in collaboration with NMG Group, a financial services company based in Asia and South Africa.
  • Our journey took a significant turn in 2007, with the establishment of our office in Liechtenstein, leveraging the Freedom to Provide Services provision to tap into the broader European market. This expansion was not just about geography but also strategic, setting the stage for future growth.
  • In 2014, the 1291 Group management team bought out NMG Group's minority shareholding. This acquisition was more than a business transaction; it was an opportunity to redefine the company's identity. We chose a name that would honour our Swiss heritage and encapsulate our core values: 1291 Group was born, symbolising both the founding year of Switzerland, and the company's commitment to integrity, innovation, and independence.
  • The vision didn't stop there. In 2016, the board, with a clear eye towards global expansion, decided to broaden our horizons further. Over the coming years, we opened new offices in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Dubai, significantly enhancing our global footprint and diversifying our product and service offerings to cater to a wider audience.
